2018 Outdoorsman Triathlon

Hi Outdoorsman Triathletes,

Thanks to all our volunteers (Sue Havens, Sue Dillery, Mary Garland, Paul Wolf, Jamie, Karla “Dog Whisperer” Havens, Scott Dillery, Keith Havens, Jim Ross, Kathleen “Dog Wrangler” McNamee, Zaak “Dog Mover” Havens, Dodge Havens, Jim Hall, Kade Havens and all those helping carry competitors’ canoes up the hill!) and our wonderful sponsors (The Outdoorsman Triathlon Charitable Trust, First Citizen Bank, Nantahala Outdoor Center, Nantahala Village, Rolling Thunder River Company, Bryson City Outdoors, Russ Callen, Dodge Havens, and Scott Dillery). We truly could not do this race without you!

This year was exciting on a number of fronts including Rocky the dog, fast river levels, and the presence of two of the race founders: Payson Kennedy (85) who had a fantastic paddle time on the famous Guru relay team and Russ Callen who completed his 43rd race!

We had an Outdoorsman First this year in the Individual race as Zaak Havens not only won the Mens Open, but for the first time in Outdoorsman history, had the fastest split in all three legs (swim, run, paddle).

OK, You’ve had your couple day recovery period so now’s the time to plan and begin training for next year. The 44th Outdoorsman Triathlon, the Nation’s Oldest, will be held on September 28 (Individual races) and September 29 (Relay races) 2019.

See you there!
